5 Steps for Maintaining a Healthy Weight
Talk to anyone about their health goals, and chances are one of the first things they will mention is their weight. Losing weight is no easy task, and keeping it off can be just as difficult. If you are struggling to maintain a healthy weight, here are five valuable pieces of advice.
Make water your drink of choice.
Drinking water offers a ton of benefits, including weight management. Sticking to water will prevent you from loading up on sugary drinks, not to mention that dehydration can sometimes disguise itself as hunger – making you eat more than you need to.
Have smaller meals more frequently.
Sometimes, the trick to maintaining your weight is actually eating more frequently. Eating five or six smaller meals every day will keep away that feeling of starvation and prevent you from over-indulging during bigger meals.
Focus on food quality, not quantity.
Many people focus on the quantity of the food they are eating, when they should be focused on the quality. Eating a lot of fruits, vegetables, and lean protein is better than eating a little bit of fried foods or sugar.
Exercise regularly.
It’s no secret that exercise helps you lose weight. You don’t have to go to the gym seven days a week to see results, either. A little bit of exercise can go a long way. Look for more ways to incorporate physical activity into your everyday life, such as parking in a further spot, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or doing pushups during commercials while watching TV.
Keep a journal.
Keep a detailed (and honest) log of your diet, exercise, and weight. If you notice that you are starting to pack on pounds, a journal can help you identify why. Look for patterns in your diet or exercise routine that correlate with weight gain or loss to find out what is working and what isn’t.
