OSG offers digital x-rays in all locations, including OrthoFast. MRI services are available in our Fairfield office and will be opening soon in our Shelton office. OSG has everything you need to accurately diagnose and treat your orthopaedic needs.
MRI is a non-invasive way for your doctor to see bones and tissue. It produces high-resolution images of the inside of your body in order to diagnose a variety of orthopaedic conditions.
OSG’s MRI machine is a Siemens Magnatom Skyra 3T. This machine has a short wide bore with an opening of 70 cm (the average MRI opening is 50-60cm). The larger bore provides a more comfortable environment for claustrophobic patients, and the short length of the machine enables patients to see from end to end more easily. The 3T strength allows for higher levels of image clarity.
The Shelton location now houses a Siemens Magnatom Aera 1.5T MRI. This machine also has a short wide bore opening of 70 cm. The 1.5T machine offers a high level of image clarity while allowing patients with certain implants to be safely scanned.
Before having an MRI, you’ll be asked questions pertaining to metal or electronic devices in your body. Some devices may not be certified as MRI safe. Devices may include:
During the exam, you’ll lie down on the movable table that slides into the opening of the tube.
A specially trained doctor will analyze the images of your scan and report the findings to your doctor. Your doctor will discuss important findings and the next steps of treatment with you.
