Adequate Vitamin D Intake 

Vitamin D helps absorb calcium and build strong bones, so getting enough of it in your diet is important. During the winter months, when there isn’t as much sunlight, you may find yourself with a vitamin D deficiency. If that is the case, consider taking a vitamin D supplement or eating foods fortified with this essential nutrient. Good sources of vitamin D include fatty fish such as salmon and tuna, cheese, egg yolks, and mushrooms. 

Weight-Bearing Exercise 

Exercising regularly helps keep your bones strong by stimulating new bone growth and slowing down age-related bone loss. Weight-bearing exercises such as walking, running, climbing stairs, and lifting weights are particularly effective for building strong bones because they put pressure on them as you move around. Try to find an exercise routine that works for you — even if it’s just 15 minutes a day — and stick with it throughout the winter season.

Eat Foods Rich in Calcium and Vitamin K  

Calcium is one of the most essential minerals for bone health since it forms the structure of our bones. Getting enough vitamin K in your diet is also important because it helps transport calcium into our bones, where it will be used for growth and repair. Good sources of calcium include dairy products like milk and yogurt, dark leafy greens like kale and spinach, nuts, sardines, certain beans, and fortified foods such as orange juice or cereal bars. Vitamin K can be found in kale, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, prunes, oats, and other green vegetables, as well as soybean oil (also called vegetable oil).
